Third Annual Holiday Concert

Steve DoyleThe Women’s Forum of Litchfield will return to St. Michael’s Parish in Litchfield for their third annual holiday concert starring New York jazz singer and pianist Steve Doyle. The Cabaret performance will be on Thursday, December 1, at 2:30pm at St. Michael’s Parish, 25 South Street, just off the Litchfield Green.

Steve Doyle is an active part of the New York jazz and cabaret scenes performing regularly at prestigious venues such as the Carlyle, Town Hall, Joe’s Pub and the Metropolitan Room. He is also invited to perform at jazz festivals, concerts and club engagements across the US and around the globe as both a leader and a sideman.

The list of noteworthy artists who request Steve’s services as a sideman currently include Marilyn Maye, Billy Stritch, Stacy Sullivan, Karen Oberlin, to name a few. In the past, Steve has shared the stage with Tony Desare, Bucky Pizzarelli, Dave Stryker, Gene Bertoncini, Kate McGarry, Steve Slagle, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Hilary Kole and many other noteworthy artists.

A recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, Steve was awarded a scholarship for study with John Clayton and Charlie Haden from the Milt Hinton Scholarship Fund Competition sponsored by the International Society of Bassists and was selected as a semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Bass Competition. He has two recordings to date – ‘Presence’ and ‘Home to You.’ His steady bookings in the New York area include Mondays at Birdland where he plays bass for Jim Caruso’s Cast Party and every Sunday at the Carlyle Hotel.

December Program: Holiday Concert

Susan Knapp Thomas harpist 12-3-15Jennifer Berman flutist 12-3-15 colorThe Women’s Forum welcomes flutist Jennifer Berman and harpist Susan Knapp Thomas performing a special holiday concert at St. Michael’s Parish, 25 South Street,  on Thursday, December 3, at 2:30pm.

Jennifer Berman, flutist, studied at the Manhattan School of Music for her Master of Music degree. A member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, she was co-principal for 2 years. After moving to Connecticut in 1994, she performs with many area orchestras, including the Hartford Symphony, Waterbury Symphony, Connecticut Virtuosi, Norwalk Symphony and New Britain Symphony.

Susan Knapp Thomas, harpist, received her Bachelor’s Degree from the Eastman School of Music, and is a well-known Chamber, Orchestral and Solo Concert Artist and teacher throughout Connecticut and Southern New England. She serves as Principal Harp for the Hartford Symphony and plays regularly for other symphonies.

Our October Program: Western Lands Trio

Western Lands Trip color large photo 10-1-15The Women’s Forum of Litchfield welcomes the Western Lands Trio who will be performing at the Litchfield Community Center at 421 Bantam Road in Litchfield on Thursday, October 1, beginning at 2:30pm.

Playing and singing songs from the Folk Song Revival of the 50s and 60s, Litchfield residents Mike Delay, John Fulkerson, and Jerry Geci will also share some of the history and lore of this influential musical era. (L-R John Fulkerson, Mike Delay, and Jerry Geci in photo.)
